Phoenix is the most complete independent in the city. It holds 4.8 from 267 reviews at St Marys Works, opens at half five in the morning and runs to midnight on weekdays, and it is one of very few Norwich gyms to publish its prices without being asked: £29.99 a month standard, £34.99 premium, £249.99 and £299.99 for the year, £7.99 for a day and £19.99 for a fortnight. Students and corporate members pay £24.99 and £29.99.

That is roughly double a budget chain, and people pay it. Google lists the site as a gym, a sports complex, a sports injury clinic and a weight loss service, so the £29.99 is buying more than a rack. The £7.99 day pass makes it the easiest premium independent in Norwich to test before committing, which is exactly how it should be used.
